The Public Design Library (PDL) connects consumers, product designers, manufacturers, hobbyists, and entrepreneurs in a whole new way capitalizing on the power of the Internet to get custom made and hard to find goods.


How to use the Public Design Library

1:  Browse the Library to find a design for your part or product

2:  Tailor it to your needs 

3:  Build it or have it built for you by our manufacturing partners.

 

Browse the Library designs:

  • Royalty-free (public domain) designs

  • Royalty-based designs

  • Micropreneur limited production runs of both royalty-free and royalty-based designs.

Public designs may be downloaded and either built by the end user, or they can be made by our manufacturing partners and shipped to your location.

 

If you choose a royalty-based design, terms of use vary. Payment is generally to the designer is based on the number of units/parts produced.

 

And anyone (even you!) can produce products, inventions, and parts which you which you can sell to friends, on eBay, or via discussion groups - thus becoming a Micropreneur.

Submitting Designs

Designs are submitted using standard formats.  For mechanical parts, we accept drawing from two free programs eMachineShop files and .DXF files.  For printed circuit boards, Pad2Pad files are standard. For house/cabin/landscaping designs, we will be negotiating with a low cost architectural CAD company.

.PDF files may be viewed andprinted directly online, or the right-click and save to your computer option may be used to save the PDF on your local computer.

 

The EMS files and Pad2Pad files must be saved on your local computer before opening/editing.

 

If you click on a .PDF of a design and it's a proprietary (for sale) design, you will be routed to a PayPal payment screen.  Once payment is made, you will receive a secure download link which will be good for 48-hours.  Make sure to save any purchased designs to your local computer and make suitable backups.
